Written By: Dr. Jaime G. Raygoza

In an enlightening Finding the Unicorn in You episode, Joseph Kibler shares his journey as an actor and advocate for disability representation. Born HIV-positive, Joseph has overcome immense adversity. But he's persevered with resilience, channeling his experiences into his creative passions.

Fulfilling His Purpose:

Joseph discovered acting as a teen and immediately knew performing would be his life's purpose. He yearned to increase disabled representation on screen after rarely seeing it growing up. Joseph's first major role on CSI: Cyber affirmed he could open doors for better inclusion and portrayal.

Owning His Truth:

At just 11 years old, Joseph learned he was HIV-positive by accident and had to keep it a painful secret. Finally coming out during a pivotal theater exercise freed him from fear and shame. Joseph urges others to embrace radical honesty with themselves and “own their story” to unlock their full potential.

The Path of Positivity:

Despite facing cruelty, Joseph chooses kindness. He recognizes everyone is just trying their best on their journey. Joseph feels his late twin's more combative spirit lives within him, helping him see multiple perspectives. This fuels his mission to keep fighting for disability advocacy with positivity.

Unicorn Lesson:

The key takeaway from Joseph's outlook is that unicorns transform hardship into purpose. Let your challenges become your greatest strengths. Spread your light by leading with empathy, resilience, and authenticity.
